Golden Lighting is a collection of handmade ceramic lighting designs created by Chardean Chum, an Australian based in Brooklyn, NY.
A background in fashion gave Chardean the idea to contemplate lights as a dress form, where, just a designer would use a dress form to drape fabric and fashion a garment, ceramic could be considered as a way to dress a lighting form. With this in mind, thoughtful consideration is given to silhouette, color and texture in creating unique, handmade lighting designs that are bold, elegant and add interest to a space.
Always a lover of design, as a child, Chardean would design and create clothing for herself and others. This passion for creativity culminated in studies at Parsons and FIT, soon followed by the creation of a line of children’s wear and later women’s wear.
A desire to design and create pieces with permanency lead to Chardean’s exploration of ceramics. A whole new world was discovered, seeing clay’s possibilities from a design perspective. With realization and delight in clay taking the limitless form of the imagination, where texture, shape and color play roles of varied emphasis, and the uniqueness of each handmade piece is further enhanced by the kiln firing.
All Golden ceramic pieces are made by hand and fired in New York City.
